About Holwell Pastures

Holwell Pastures was bought by Melton Mowbray and District Scout Council in the mid 1980’s. It is located to the north of Melton Mowbray, in rural Leicestershire, just two and a half miles from the centre of town. It is therefore only a short drive to get to a wide range of supermarkets and other shops but is situated off a country road in very beautiful and quiet countryside.

Melton Mowbray is famous for its pork pies and Stilton cheese and has developed over recent years as a Rural Capital of Food. The Pork Pie Shoppe in the town centre is a popular attraction for locally made hand-raised Melton Mowbray pork pies but there are many other attractions nearby. These include Holwell Nature Reserve, just five minutes’ walk away, nearby Twinlakes Theme Park, Melton Carnegie museum, the town swimming pool and 1000 years old St Mary’s Church, Stonehurst Family Farm and Museum and Manor Farm both at Loughborough, the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre with over 30 different activities available to take part in, Rutland Water which has a number of facilities for young people both on and off the water and the Leicester Space Centre and Richard III Visitor Centre.

Holwell Pastures is owned and managed by Melton District Scouts and has for many years provided an ideal opportunity for groups of youths to enjoy back to basic camping and the outdoors. Once the new building is open at the beginning of 2019 it will offer an even better experience with sleeping facilities for up to 40 young people and their leaders. The large community room and fitted kitchen in the centrally heated building will also be available for local community groups and organisations to rent for daytime activities during the week.
